The Irvington Presbyterian Church Session working with the San Francisco Presbytery Engagement Team announced that Pastor Karl Shadley would serve as the Transitional Pastor beginning January 1, 2019. By way of background, Pastor Karl has distinguished himself in the area of Christian Ministry for 45 years. He has served in diverse communities experiencing transition, change and conflict. His collaborative style has allowed him to help find new leaders and prepare them to serve the church in new ways. While working with Dr. Eric Law and the Kaleidoscope Institute for the past 20 years he honed the skills and tools to help build competent leadership in a diverse, changing world. He successfully completed Interim Pastor training and did extensive reading and training in supporting churches during times of change and transition.
He is currently serving as the co-moderator of the Presbytery of San Francisco (2017-19) and the coordinator of the Education Center and the Commissioned Lay Pastor training. These roles have helped him bring the support of the Presbytery to help its member churches and 1001 New Worshiping Communities. After retiring from Calvary Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, in September of 2017, Pastor Karl continued to support his local church and the Presbytery. He is looking forward to using his gifts, skills and experience to serve churches in transition in the Presbytery, meeting them in “the place where their great need and my great joy meet.”
Serving as the Director of Family Ministries at IPC allows me to teach children and their parents about the joy and adventure of life with Christ. I am a Behavior Therapist, serving children with special needs in Bay Area school districts for the last 15 years. I love to use arts, drama, and gospel magic to teach Biblical truths to kids, and feel called to nurture families as they grow in faith in an increasingly challenging world.
My husband, Pastor Garrett Yamada and I have been married for 33 years, and have served in churches in Riverside, Manila (Philippines), Berkeley, Laguna Hills, Pleasanton, San Mateo, and Newark, California. We have three grown children, Brent, Kimi, and Sara. I enjoy spending time with our family, traveling, hiking, the visual and dramatic arts, and good food.
Jeanette has been the Bookkeeper for IPC since December 2008. Born and raised in the Midwest, she has two grown children and two of the four-legged furry variety currently in residence. She enjoys sharing her faith with students in Children’s Church at IPC and Kids Club at Hirsch Elementary School. She is grateful to God for mercifully saving her and patiently working in her life to conform her to the image of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
